How close will your ball land?

Boules – the ball sport for outdoors

Boule, also known as pétanque, is a traditional French ball game in which players try to throw their metal balls as close as possible to a small target ball, the “little pig”. Boules is a sociable game that is popular in France both as a leisure activity and as a competitive sport and is often enjoyed with good company and a glass of pastis.

A boules court was built next to the Bähnhöfli outdoor stand in 2025. It is free to use. If you don't bring your own balls, you can hire them from the outdoor stand.

The boules court was financed by the Migros Aare Culture Percentage.

The boules court is freely accessible every day (the court is only illuminated when the outside stand is open).

* The lane is not accessible during the Gurtenfestival (mid-July).

Use of the boules court is free of charge.

Ball rental: CHF 15.– per hour + deposit

The balls can be hired at the Bahnhöfli during opening hours.

Rules:

Start of the game: One player throws the target ball (“piggy”) to a distance of 6 to 10 meters.

Throw: Players take turns throwing their metal balls to place them as close as possible to the piggy.

Teams: The game is played between two teams consisting of one to three players. Each player has two or three balls, depending on the number of players in the team.

Techniques: Players can roll or throw their ball to push the opponent's balls away or place them better.

Scoring method:

Scoring: after each round, the team scores points for each ball that is closer to the piggy than the opposing team's best ball.

End of the game: A game ends as soon as one team reaches 13 points.

These rules make for an exciting and strategic game that requires both skill and tactical thinking.
